Turning Waste Cooking Oils into Biofuels—Valorization Technologies: A Review

In search of a more sustainable society, humanity has been looking to reduce the environmental impacts caused by its various activities. The energy sector corresponds one most impactful activities since energies produced come from fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, which are finite resources. Moreover, their inherent processes convert into electricity emit pollutants, responsible for global warming, eutrophication, acidification soil marine environments. Biofuels alternatives raw material used production includes vegetable oils, wood agricultural waste, municipal waste cooking oils (WCOs). conventional route WCO valorization is biodiesel, which, all recovery technologies, presents advantages disadvantages that must be explored technical economic perspective. Despite successful use in it should noticed there other approaches WCO. Among them, thermochemical technologies can applied produce alternative fuels through cracking or hydrocracking, pyrolysis, gasification processes. For each technology, best conditions were identified, finally, projects companies work with this type technology identified.
